Letter of Apology

August 24th, 2007 | by Fhen Macabasag |

letter-of-apology2.jpgRecently, I posted my first two articles for Sinirangan.com. I was a new Eastern Samar Blog member then when I published my said literary works. Despite my very busy schedule, I still maintained to write and post an article for this regional site. There was a part of my brain telling me to publish one literary craft at the minimum.

I submitted “Cyberspace Invitation” on August 19, narrating my scenario prior and during to my application to become a member of Eastern Samar Blog. Following the other day upon reopening the regional site, I was happy receiving a comment from someone who calls himself/herself as Observer. I read this short yet direct statement: “Is it okay if you air your views concisely and to the point next post? Thanks.

Obviously, Observer’s comment is a criticism to my long and exhaustive article. Although it was a “friendly or constructive criticism,” I appreciated Observer’s boldness. I agree to his/her observation and verbalized: “I accept your viewpoint, which pertains to airing my views concisely and to the point.” It was natural for me to seek apology to my audience and admitted my weakness in terms of lengthy and extensive writing.

I was delighted when I decipher Observer’s line: “Hope I did not stunt your creative juices by my comment.” It only shows that my audience is concern on my personal confidence and optimism to write more. Albeit his/her criticism may appear to be daring, Observer’s intention was not to deflate my literary craving.

In this response, I had composed a fresh and short article entitled, “The New Ninoys.” My psyche expressed its persuasion to write “concisely and to the point” in the manner of its content. In my writing process, I preserved to keep in mind Observer’s suggestion. Thus, my second article was indeed very brief and direct.

But the criticism does not stop there. “You should focus blogging issues concerning the province,” robustly advised Blog. Haruan approved, “You are correct! The distinctive significance of this site is its being regional.” At first, I was amazed reading their proposition. I was sort of in the defensive position in my reply to their reflection. I explained:

I guess Haruan and Blog merely focused on the signifier “Filipino people” losing sight of its diversity and dynamism and thereby commenting “Damo na et mga blog hiton national.”

I tried hard to remain to be considerate. In fact, I confessed my frailty and wrote: “If you could observe, my said article is quite broad. Pardon for being broad…” Undeniably, I disappointed my audience (including Blog and Haruan) to see and comprehend the regional-ness of my said literary work. Due to its broad wordings, few interpreted them as adjacent to national article and never regional. Haruan argued, “Topics for and about Sinirangan as well as related interests deserve this posh space.”

Cedric Solidon is right, Sinirangan.com has a sensitive audience. And in this mode, I wanted to be receptive and sensitive to my audience at certain extent. Again, I reiterated my apology and sincerely wrote: “If I failed to let you understand that, forgive my mishaps.”

Quoting my previous statement: “I seek understanding from the Sinirangan.com viewers…” Forgive my mishaps for being hard and harsh to our Sinirangan.com audience. Rest assured, I’ll be more sensitive to our audience.

Keep your comments coming. As Lance AC Acampado uttered, “Thanks to you… for making this a more interactive discussion.”

There’s realy no need to apologize Fhen. Everyone’s just trying to help to make this blogsite a success. Our province needs a website where everyone can voice out opinions in a civilized way (unlike iborongan guestbook).
It would be better if anonymous entry will be restricted to avoid irresponsible postings.
    Thanks.

    Kikkoman:
I appreciate your comment. Doubtless to say, almost all Sinirangan.com audiences are “trying to help to make this blogsite a success.”
It is comforting to note that we agree on certain terms like your idea that “everyone can voice out opinions in a civilized way.” And the opinions shared by Haruan and Blog are really in a “civilized way.” Thus, I answered them in a “civilized way.”
Whether there is a need to apologize or not, I just want to emphasize that I am very concern with our audience. The way I interpreted Blog’s last message, s/he misunderstood my views pertaining to her/his comment on the regional-ness issue. So I thought, there was lacking in my writing that unable my readers to comprehend my point. I do not blame my audience, I have to blame it to the writer; that is my strong conviction…
    In anyway, thank you…
