The Bishops of Borongan
August 9th, 2007 | by Lance AC Acampado |The name of the new Bishop of Borongan is Bishop Crispin Barrete Varquez. Born on December 5, 1960, ordained as priest on April 14, 1989, and appointed as Bishop of Borongan last August 4, 2007. He is from Bohol. He is the sixth Bishop of Borongan.
Bishop Leonardo Medroso, who has served the Diocese of Borongan for almost twenty years from December 18, 1986 to October 17, 2006 before being transferred to the Diocese of Tagbilaran last December 14, 2007, was the fifth.
The other Bishops who have served the Diocese of Borongan are:
1. The late Most Reverend Vicente P. Reyes, DD who was appointed as bishop of Borongan in January 19, 1961 and served until his appointment as Bishop of Cabanatuan in August 8, 1967.
2. The late Most Reverend Godofredo Pedernal who was appointed in February 26, 1968 and served until he resigned in September 18, 1976.
3. The late Most Reverend Sincero B. Lucero who was appointed March 8, 1977 and then was transferred to the Diocese of Calbayog in December 10, 1979.
4. Most Reverend Nestor C. Cariño who was appointed in August 12, 1980 and resigned in January 31, 1986 to serve as the Secretary-General of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).
