The Eastern Samar Community Blog

The first and only community blog about the province of Eastern Samar, Philippines. With news, literature and a lot more.

What happens when you google “Eastern Samar?”

By • Aug 1st, 2007 • Category: Features

Tonight, I get 963, 000 hits in .08 seconds. I click on the first link: www.easternsamar.gov.ph, and the window tells me that the page “cannot be displayed.”

The second link leads me to Wikipedia. The write up on Eastern Samar says that the province produces copra, and imports timber, among others.

I click on the third link. It reads: A profile of the province, giving details of its of its history, location, topography, and political divisions. The page takes some time to load and half of the page is wrapped with black times new roman text, size 10. On the left side of the page is a bitmap image of the map of the province.

I read the first paragraph, “The province of Eastern Samar was created by Republic Act no. 4221 which was approved by Congress on June 19, 1965 dividing the whole island of Samar into three independent provinces namely; Northern Samar, Western Samar (subsequently renamed Samar) and Eastern Samar. “

My apologies to the writer who I presume had the intent of attracting readers to the site.

The site turns me off and instead I face the monitor to write my first post in this blog. Though what I had in mind was different, this first post may turn out to be a little bitter.

But on the brighter side, this helps me introduce us, the Sinirangan Blog Team. We are a group of bloggers who will help Estehanons paint a better and more colorful picture of Este for the whole world to see.

To add to that, we write so that you won’t end up like me.

With this, the next time you google Eastern Samar, you’ll fell closer to home.

  1. [...] as a meeting place for people coming from Eastern Samar. My friend Medora Quirante is writing for http://www.sinirangan.com, a team blog about Eastern Samar. I haven’t been there yet, the closest to the place [...]

  2. reading this article (what happens when you google “eastern samar?), my mind was somewhat disturbed with the thought on the phrase “…approved by Congress on June 19, 1965.” it intensely caught my attention particularly to the year of “1965.”

my pondering cerebrum runs deep to whoever was the philippine president at those times. and it finally arrived – it was none other than the dictator ferdinand marcos who masterminded martial rule. so it was the dictator who signed into law the political division of the samar island. what a trivia as it appears to me. i’m wondering why the dictat marcos consented in the approval of republic act no. 4221.

furthermore, i would like to “help estehanons paint a better and more colorful picture of este for the whole world to see.” nonetheless, i would ardently recommend to the “first team blog” to localize this regional site. in my interpretation, the site “sinirangan.com” emphasizes more on the literature of the estehanon writers for the estehanon viewers. before we open to the world on the estehanon’s culture, society and history, we should first touch-base so to speak. let us go back to our roots through the eyes of our people and expand them to them concretely…

one of the basic feature of success is to find the right crowd from which our hearts and minds socio-historically belong. sinirangan.com should be first for the estehanon people before to whole world…
