Words of Encouragement for the Blog
August 2nd, 2007 | by Ced Solidon |Yesterday, I received an e-mail from one of the forumers of the old Sinirangan Forum (yep, this blog used to be a forum for those who don’t know.) which I’d like to share with everyone. Here’s the part of the e-mail:
“…congratulations for making this endeavor as Sinirangan’s first!”
Thank you for the words of encouragement, Haruan. Thanks too to parahuyong for dropping by. Finally, thanks to the readers who will support this blog for the duration of its life. Keep those comments coming!

Here we are concerned about Sinirangan’s posterity. What about the present? For instance, is there a way to find and post here the telephone numbers, fax numbers, email addresses and mailing addresses of our honorable Congressman, Governor, city Mayor, Ombudsman and other important provincial and city officials??? If they have their websites, can we have their URLs too? Let’s make use of our present-day “information super highways”!
By Ced Solidon on Aug 3, 2007 | Reply
Great idea. We’ll look for that information and implement that here once we do. Thanks!

I do hope that Estehanons will find this endeavor something worth supporting. Let us actively participate in making this site an instrument of promoting Eastern Samar, the City of Borongan and the 22 municipalities so that the world may know and appreciate our place, our culture, our uniqueness!

Hi Ced, nice knowing you too. You should tell Medz to contribute more for this blog. hehe It’s is really a good idea. Once more, congratulations for the effort.
By the way, thanks for addding my site to your blogroll. Just a minor correction, thats “postcard” and not potcard headlines.
All the best.

My turn to correct myself. In my previous comment, that’s “adding” and not “addding.”
Just added Sinirangan to my blog as you suggested. More power!

Karlo: my bad, sorry I missed that. But I already fixed it. Thanks for pointing that out. Hehe. As for Medz, I’ll try to nag her when I see her online. Please do the same thing when you meet her. Hehe. Thanks for dropping by and for the link!

i would like to extent my warm congratulation to ced solidon for his effort to create and publish a blog site that caters for the estehanon people’s dreams and thoughts.
i don’t know if this statement has truth, “…congratulations for making this endeavor as sinirangan’s first!” what makes it “first”? or is it really the “firsts”? however, i strongly agree to ced’s “vision” about this regional site.
i think it is timely for the estehanon to produce a site that would really mirror the collective aspirations and social desires of the majority of the people of sinirangan.
the way i see it, i don’t peruse or read any column that specializes on the literature of the estehanon. it lacks a space as a venue to exhibit and share the unique literature, history and culture of the sinirangan people in the time continuum.
then again, this site is currently a metaphor of the human’s development - we could compare this to a baby finding its way to the road of maturity.
good luck to everyone who support (including me) to this regional site.

hello siday. first of all, thanks for dropping by the blog and for giving us your insights on it. local literature is a great way of promoting our local culture. unfortunately though, i am not aware of any real avenues for it to happen. i hope this blog will do just that.
as for being a writer on the blog, you are of course welcome to apply. just send me your resume plus at least three sample works in english to this e-mail address: info @ sinirangan.com. i will contact you after then.
again, thank you!

“…thanks for dropping by [in] the [first team] blog and for giving us your insights on it.”
you are welcome ced. it feels comforting knowing that you (and your team) acknowledge my “insight” on your blog site. indeed, “local [estehanon] literature is a great way of promoting our local culture.” in essence, our regional literature is a part and parcel of our vast and dynamic estehanon culture.
as i view it, ced is already aware of the importance of regional literature in the general perspective. however, he appears to be “not aware of any real avenues for it to happen.” that is quite tragic and even alarming to my mind. how come ced fails to see the “real venues” in exhibiting, studying, discovering, formulating and expressing our local regional literature considering that he is a native estehanon?
i am not certain what ced means when he said “real avenues for it to happen.” the way i understand the signifier “venues,” it is realistically possible and materially feasible with the presence of the internet medium including this regional site.
in my impression, ced tries to imply that sinirangan.com is simply for news article only and no “real venues” for literary section. how sad…
p.s.: what is these three sample works? does these works signify three samples of news article using english language? or something else…please expound so that i may know what to submit…thanks.

What I meant by venues are the traditional venues outside the internet where we can exhibit our craft like published novels written by Eastern Samarenos. However, if there exists any, please inform me and pardon my lack of awareness.
As for your perception on the website being purely a news blog, I said in my e-mail that I am open to literary works being published here. I have no objections to that.
Finally, about the sample works, they can be essays, feature articles and the likes written in English.
Thank you.
By siday on Aug 9, 2007 | Reply
that is a good news indeed. music to my ears reading ced’s message, “i am open to literary works being published here [sinirangan.com].” that enervates me more to be a participant to this regional site…
it is crystal clear to me now that we have similar grounds in perceiving this site to be a “venue” for accepting literary section.
and to my awareness, there is no existing traditional venue especially novels and books focusing principally on the literary crafts of eastern samarenos. at present, eastern samarenos literature published in books or similar forms of traditional venue is only a division of the waray regional literature mainly inaugurated by prof. victor sugbo.
regional literature is still developing in our philippine literature. in fact, prof. bienvenido lumbera (2006 national artist for literature) accepts the truth that regional literature is in the long and protracted process of moulding towards promoting, discovering and establishing the unique culture of the regional filipinos.
i attempted to write an essay about regional literature particularly for the waraynon some time ago but i have only few reference materials and i need time to study more about this literary field…

Thank you for the kind words. My name’s on the internet, you can look it up there. I’m not sure though if it’s a good thing or not.
By the way, let’s not forget the other members of the blog too, Medz Quirante and Lance Acampado. Others more are coming so stay put.

Ced and multitude of Estehanons on the web,
What a positive transformation! Before we used to lay ourselves open to “intellectual” discourse over bottles of beer (or gallons of tuba)… now we’re converging in small, yet bourgeoning clout of Sinirangan’s cybercommunity.
Ced’s, effort is extensively commendable as not everyone of us have the luxury of time, opportunity, talent and perhaps courage to “gather around” sensible thoughts in one venue. I have long dreamed to act upon the wish of some friends to organize a similar track but I am fully-loaded with so much work and commitments. My 14-hour job, 6.5 days a week is such a “pleasure” to contain, huh! That’s why, Cedric deserves more than words of praises as, despite his congested schedule, he was able to make his “dream” come true.
Let me advise everyone, though: let us all observe a high level of understanding, respect, tolerance, pride, commitment and responsibility, if only to fuel a lasting life for this site.
I may not be very active in posting blogs or missives but I am always around… and always a few clicks of a button away!
Hats-off to Cedric and others who unselfishly (or selfishly) shared their positive energies to put this thing on the cyber map!

HI, Congratulations to the people behind this great idea of creating this site. I am pleased to see a space for creative minds and spirits. I guess, i myself would want to hear feature stories i.e. childhood/teenage life in Samar, favourite places and memorable events, etc. A lot of us are now living outside our beloved Province and yet, we all carry these wonderful memories of the past which i’m sure bind us together in one way or another. I agree that it would be best for you to categorise the topics so contributors can also choose which one she/he would love to join with. Goodluck and more power!!!

Hi, prettysaint. Yes, it would be great to have articles such as that. In fact, we’ll be accepting contributions from people already. I’ll just put up an announcement on the blog anytime this week. Thanks for dropping by!

Ced,
I finished doing my exams past 9pm and it’s a two-hour drive to my house. I still went to Libis but my friend insisted that we go somewhere else. Anyway, can you do the favor in finding how our kabs fared that night?
My students cursed me for the “tough” exam. But i told them the sharpest knife went through heat and friction.

About the event, sige, I’ll try to see what I can gather.

Hi Ced,
I’ll look forward to that announcement as i’ll probably be one of your upcoming contributors. Apparently, the iborongan website is full of rubbish discussions and comments. Or perhaps the way some people are abusing our newly found freedom of speech. Do you have a link from that website to this team blog? I just thought, for people checking iborongan but would like to read substantive materials and information, they can easily jump in to this blog.
I hope to finish my article soonest.
Thanks and Cheers.
