Oh Gugma ko nga Juliet ngan Manuel
By Fhen Macabasag • Oct 22nd, 2007 • Category: ArtsGinbiling kam namon, desaparecido han amon rehiyon,
diin man nga mga kuwartel han berde ngan itom nga yatot,
ipinakiana ka ha nakaposte nga mga bantay –
puros usig nga huyuhoy an nadudunggan.
Ginwara kam ni Mayo didto ha Pinabacdao,
napuruko man ngani kamo ha sinasakyan nga ban,
ug madyik an nagpirit ha iyo mawaog.
Nadoaw kam han mga anak ni Caman-ilao,
karga-karga kam ha sarakyan nga
pinapaandar ni kamatayon.
“Oh Juliet, where art thou and Manuel?”
nahuhulop na baya an pamilya niyo –
waray man kamo pag-unay,
pero gin-unayan ka Juliet
samtang linugos nga pinakulaw an imo asawa…
Pastilan, pauli-a na gad kamo,
naghuhulat na an ikinutay nga mga panapton
para ha paglaba han lusak han nasud!

I hope you’ll pen a poem, too, for this tragic couple and their equally less-fortunate son. They, too, deserve compassion, if not more so for the ironic tragedy that befell the couple as dedicated cadres of the communist movement.

Aada na naman an iya ‘communist movement,’ ngan papaano dawla iton makokonek ha imo natura nga siday?! – utro, aadi na naman an aton ‘insinuating friend,’ nagpipinasaway! Kairo man.
Para ha imo, paghimo hin imo kalugaringon nga siday, para hikit-an ta kun gaano ka kakarit/kagaling ha paghimo hin siday. Padayon an imo mga critique ha mga siday, pero waray ka man ginhihimo nga siday nga imo himo gud. Puros yawyaw, waray buhat!
felix rivas: you’re cool man! waaaaaah pasaway!!! just ignore him… that’s his/her role here… real intellectuals are weird but not necessarily noisy.
fhen: beyond the whimpers are hope!
karuyag ko gadla kunta magpakiana kan fhen kun ha ano nga rason hiya nakasurat hini nga siday. ano dawla iton nagpapalayo nga mensahe nga karuyag nimo ipaabot ha amon nga magbarasa? hin-o iton imo gin papauli para paglaba han lusak han nasud, iton mga tawo ba nga nagpapadayon hini nga makalilisang kahimtang hiton aton pangubyernohan yana o an mga desaparecidos nga an ira kinabuhi nagpapadayon nga ayat ha aton nga makigbisog para hiton hustisya ngan kaangayan. Salamat!
Haruan:
Heheheh!
Thanks for seeing me as a ‘cool man.’ I think, you’re cool man as well…
As to the ‘pasaway,’ I’ll take your suggestion seriously. Indeed, he/she doesn’t need mentioning here in our comment. Opppps! – I’m already [implicitly] mentioning him/her again…Hahahah
Undoubtedly, “real intellectuals are weird but not necessarily noisy.” And we know who are and who are NOT the real intellectuals!
Sometimes, it really befuddles one’s mind how some would have the gall to consider themselves as “intellectuals” just by posting inane and non-sensical terminologoes as “insinuating individual”, “dedactive”, etc. then proceed to kiss each other’s butts by engaging in a mutual admiration/praise exercise.
It takes much, much more than such inanities for one to be considered as an intellectual, much, much more than the rambling attempts at long discourses that seem to go nowhere and proves no point no view at all.
Rivas:
Thank you for your brief observation to this siday. Indeed, the New Critics movement influences me in many ways!
Haruan:
Thanks for your short statement.
I am not certain whether I ‘get’ your point, but thanks anyway for your effort to write your comment.
Apoy Loli:
I wanted to agree to Voltaire that “good poets don’t need to explain.”
Then again, I would appreciate if my audiences/readers attempt to deconstruct the ‘meaning’ of my sidays. In that process, I’d know my strengths and weaknesses in my craftmanship throught the critical eyes of my audience.
[...] Oh Gugma ko nga Juliet ngan Manuel [...]
Deconstruct seems to be a very favorite word these days.
Maybe self-destruct would be more fitting with such self-glorifying statement as classifying oneself as a “good poet” and an “intellectual”. Yuck!
Since when have true poets and intellectuals started to praise themselves? Has literary standards really sunk to such a low level for certain people to shamelessly acclaim and congratulate oneself?
