To Mr./Ms. Eastern Samar Reporter :

Is the Arnulfo Arma you referred to who won as the new barangay chairman of Brgy. B (Borongan poblacion) the same person who is/was the fire marshall of Borongan? If he is the same person, what might have precipitated his resignation from his former position? Sorry to ask, but I’m really interested because he was my former batchmate way back in high school. Thanks!

That’s the bitter part of trying to look for greener pastures far from one’s local origins; other people tend to consider one as no longer a Boronganon even if one still pronounces sometimes somes words like “mantika” as “manteka” or calls a “bawang” as “lasona” or literally asks a vendor “ilan?” for “pira?”

My brother heard from his friends that “hukip” in Brgy G was as huge as Php1500.

There was talk going on also that because there were only 11 voters for the SK polls in Balud, one candidate bought votes for Php3000.

Allow me to correct certain inaccuracies about my candidacy as Kagawad of CAMPESAO rumors about my alleged intention to run for Mayor of Borongan. Residence or domicile is not a mansion nor a “cottage to boast”. It is the intention to return. It is in the heart,not in real estate. I am a Borongasnun and a Boronganun I will remain wherever I may be. Contrary to rumors you heard,it was our batchmates and some people who know me who wanted me to run for mayor, not only last May but even during sevewral elections past. I told them it was not the time.

As regards one of the losers in the SK elections in Brgy. Alang-alang, Louie Abellar,it appears to be poetic justice (or may be karma?) rendered on the son for the manipulation his father, Rodito Abellar, Sr., a former barangay chairman, did in his time when the said father held another (illegal)election for chairmanship of the SK council of Brgy. Alang-alang after his protege lost to one who was the popular choice of Brgy. Alang-alang youth at that time.
