Llorente, Eastern Samar has No Municipal Doctors

January 21st, 2008 | by Ced Solidon |

It would be a bad idea to get sick in Llorente, Eastern Samar nowadays. It is because The Philippine Daily Inquirer reports it as one of the municipalities in Eastern Visayas that is without a doctor.

In an interview with the said newspaper, Genelyn Herrera, coordinator of the Pinoy MD Program, pointed to the lack of funds as a major reason why Llorente and others are unable to hire municipal doctors.

Other municipalities without a municipal doctor are Pinabacdao, Jiabong, Tarangnan, Talalora, Daram, Pagsanjan, Matuginao, Sto. NiƱo, Almagro, Tagapul-an and Gandara in Samar; San Francisco, Macrohon and Silago in Southern Leyte; Mapanas and Biri in Northern Samar; Llorente in Eastern Samar; and the island municipality of Maripipi in Biliran.

hi,ced. kumusta? medyo maiha na nga wara ak makaabri hini nga blog. yeah, i agree, we should find a way how to keep contributions coming. i’m willing to help. ha pagtikang, i would suggest that you only accept straight news, brief features and comments on this blog. a literary blog can be another project. what we need at this time are journalists who can report and comment on what’s happening in the province. this way, we can raise the bar of discussions on issues related to its development and think up of things we can do for the province.

Maupay nga adlaw frenskei. Salamat han pag-suporta. Feel free to contribute news, stories, pictures, etc to our site!

Eric: Kumusta? Yes, it’s been a while. In beginning, it was meant to be a straight news site of sorts. An problema la kay guti an sources. So the focus shifted to anything and everything there is about Eastern Samar, from news to literary pieces. Medyo naging literary an iya focus because of Fhen’s huge contributions hiton iya mga siday. Still, it would be great to have fresh news and features here para hiton aton mga kasangkayan nga wara ha Este yana.

It would also be great to have a team of journalists who will help us with news. That way, we don’t have to depend on secondary sources of information such as The Inquirer, Star and other newspapers. But that of course costs money, bisan na man la guti nga honorarium hiton mga nag-cocontribute. And money is something that I don’t have a lot of. Hehe.

Your comments and suggestions are always welcome. Let’s see what we can do with the suggestions you’ve just given. :)

ced, why not solicit contributions from pia-eastern samar or from fr. cyrain? or maybe ask permission from leyte-samar daily to copy paste news on eastern samar that appear in their site? some priests in the diocese would make good columnists. surfers will make good travel writers. profiles of estehanons worth emulating will be good pieces. and expenditure reports of lgus will be interesting. i don’t know how feasible, wara manggud ak ha at, maybe you can link up with school papers in the province and tap student writers. what’s in it for them? opportunity to get published in the web and exposure in community journalism. i dunno how attractive.

That’s a fantastic idea really. Funny but you made me realize this blog hasn’t reached out to as many people yet. I’ll try to cook up some plans based on your suggestions. Thanks as always!
