No Mining Operations in Manicani - MGB Official

April 30th, 2008 | by Ced Solidon |

An official of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) has yesterday denied the existence of any mining operation in the island of Manicani, Guiuan, Eastern Samar. The comment came after a senator said of a continued mining operation in the area. This is according to the report by Ranulfo Docdocan at the ABS-CBN news website.

Armando Dupio, Jr. of the MGB denied any mining operation in the island. He is the chief of the Mining Environment and Safety Division of the said government agency.

According to him, mining operations in the area stopped after a moratorium on the operations has been issued in 2002.

Last Monday, Sen. Loren Legarda pointed out the existence of mining operations in the island and asked these to be stopped as soon as possible.
