The 23 fellows for the 5th Lamiraw Creative Writing Workshop slated on November 5-7, 2008 at TTMIST, Calbayog City, Samar were named by Phil Harold Mercurio, the Lamiraw project coordinator.
Mercurio enumerated this year’s Lamiraw fellows coming from, and outside, the Eastern Visayan Region, they are: Reza Magdaraog, Dianne Marzol, and Marlon Mente from Northern Samar, Efmer Agustin, Edwin Briones, Michael Villas, Imelda Ruiz, and Jerby Santo from Leyte, Kevin Capablanca from Biliran, Hermie Sanchez, Jude Casaljay, Dolores Pitao, Jessie Baldomaro, Lorna De Veyra, Nemesio Baldesco, Rhea Rosales, Joseph Lim, Reynel Ignacio, and Ryan Labana from Samar, Arthur Macabasag from Eastern Samar, Chuck Smith, and Ma. Yasmin Doctor from Manila, and Jondy Medalle Arpilleda from Davao City.
He also bared that the 20 fellows coming from Region VIII are subsidized by the NCCA while the 3 fellows outside Eastern Visayas will have to pay a registration fee of P3,000.00 each, which covers their meals, accommodation, and workshop materials.
With the theme, “An pagsurat siday pagparig-on san aton pinulungan,” this year’s workshop is a joint project of Tiburcio Tancinco Memorial Institute of Science and Technology (TTMIST) and the NCCA.
Mercurio further said that the identified fellows submitted three poems, or one short story, or two essays, or any reasonable combination of the genre to the 5th Lamiraw Selection Committee through mail or e-mail as a pre-qualification requirement.
Their works will be critiqued in the workshop session by the following panelists: Dr. Leoncio Deriada from Iloilo City, Prof. Merlie Alunan and Dr. Victor Sugbo from UP Tacloban, Dr. David Genotiva from EVSU, Tacloban City, and Mr. Dante Rosales from Calbayog City.

i haven’t learned about this before.i’m a literature instructor in one of the colleges here in tacloban. i should have taken this opportunity to join and submit some entries.
The submission of entries was on September 30. For the meantime, you are welcome to submit your literary pieces here just like Fhen and Mary Grace.
It’s nice that you have registered your interest to join in this creative writing workshop. Usually, this is done annually every month of November.
Perhaps next year, you can submit your entries and have the chance to be one of its fellows. In the meantime, you can publish some of your works in this site. =)
