10 Eastern Samar Fishermen Rescued In Surigao; 7 Still Missing
By Ced Solidon • Jan 21st, 2009 • Category: NewsTen fishermen from Suluan Island in Guiuan were rescued Sunday morning by fellow fishermen in Tandag, Surigao del Sur.
The fishermen were identified as Reynaldo Ramos, Nesty Bencion, Julito Cuyos, Anacleto Estanio, Marcelo Loyola, Boy Latina, Philip Latina, Jovi Macawile, Jessie Macawile and Gerard Marquito.
All were aboard the fishing boat Xyril when the vessel capsized on January 15 due to huge waves brought about by the bad weather.
The Regional Disaster Coordinating Councils of Eastern Visayas and Caraga are already coordinating for the return of the fishermen.
Meanwhile, there are still no reports on the whereabouts of the seven passengers of the boat ‘Rogin’ who were reported missing since January 10.
The Philippine Air Force already joined in the search for the seven. According to Angel Gaviola of the regional Office of Civil Defense, they still consider the missing alive.
