Eastern Samar Anti-Corruption Group Formed

By Ced Solidon • Feb 10th, 2009 • Category: News

Several people who attended the meeting with Bishop Crispin Varquez last January met last Sunday to discuss the things that they can do to help improve the province’s current condition.

A group was formed towards the end of the discussion, called the Eastern Samar Anti-Corruption Advocates or ESACA. The group aims to promote four values in the province and among its citizens:

1. Good governance
2. Transparency
3. Accountability
4. Citizen’s participation

Currently, the group is formulating concrete ways to address some of the issues that face Eastern Samar. More information will be posted as they become available.

  1. Hi,

I work with a multilateral development bank and specializes in procurement contracts. I review civil works and goods bidding documents and contracts. I am willing to be part of the group, but I should know first who leads it.

  2. Details of the group are still under wraps but I’ll definitely post it here once everything’s ironed out. Thanks!

  3. I met the good Bishop during the St. Paul Jubille celebration at the Araneta center but missed the meeting with fellow Estehanons. I’d like to join the group, just let me know how. Nice advocacy… Sirang pa Sinirangan!

  4. Hi, Ced. Count me in. I’m from Eastern Samar and currently working in two foreign-funded counter-corruption projects in 15 city governments. Who will I get in touch with?

  5. Eric? That would be great and it’s equally great nga damo it interesado. But I’m not sure yet how it will work but I’ll sure to get everyone posted if you want to help.

  12. any update on the anti-corruption crusade? another ningas-kugon drive?

just got back from sinirangan last night… it pained me to witness how our people and our place dwell in grave destitution… if the organizers are sincere enough to pursue the drive then they must act with a high sense of urgency before they’ll be finally converted by the power hungry lions and insatiable brutes among sinirangan’s politicians.

    count me in!

    thanks…

  13. I haven’t had any updates from the organizers so far. The last meeting was in February pa. But if and when I do hear from them again, I’ll definitely post it here. Thanks!

  14. I would like to join this Anti-Corruption Group but don’t know who are spearheading this drive and means of contact / communication. Seems quiet after the last news update.

In any case, in parallel with this drive, a small group would of us plan to meet with sincere and committed Boronganons to come together in Borongan on May 6 @t 4 pm at Pebbles & Tides (kkb la ha, wara ta pondo – generous donors are welcome he he he) to discuss the first steps towards creating a common platform of Good Governance and Voter’s Values Re-orientation drive, first in Borongan and depending on the progress shall hopefully spread out to all other towns in Sinirangan . Even a small group of can kick-start the activity. The immediate output of this discussion shall be agenda of a planned Borongan Community Foum or Symposium to be attended by all who clamor for Change & Transformation. The planned forum has the following agenda (tentative, among others):
    1. Form a common platform of expectations, visioon and how we will have a Great Borongan
    2. Voter’s Values Re-orientation Campaign
    3. Elective Public Officials / Candidates KPIs (Suruklan kon Dapat Ibotos o Dire)
    4. Forming of Drive teams (Mechanics & Logistics)

  15. good day po sainyong lahat estehanon..igbulig ak hiton iyo mga advocacy..
