On Me Being the Governor’s Man

By Ced Solidon • Mar 10th, 2009 • Category: Announcements

A question was raised at iBorongan’s kumustahan section about whether I am the governor’s man or not and if he’s funding the website.

Here’s the exact post I’m referring to:

“Date: 3/9/2009, 12:47 am, EDT
Name: gambit
Email: pusoydos41@yahoo.com
Location: bublangan
Number: 865
napakiana la…totoo ba nga hi ced solidon hit sinirangan.com in tauhan ni gov. evardone… hi gov. daw nagpopondo hit nga site nga sinirangan.com?

sana dire it totoo…napakiana la…”

Just to clarify things, no, I am not in any way connected to the governor or any other provincial or national politico. And I keep the website running with my money from my own pocket which I earn from my writing gigs.

And as a disclosure, yes, I am related to Borongan councilor Jesse Solidon (he’s my uncle) but he doesn’t in any way tell me how to run the site or what to put in here.

Aside from that, I don’t have any intentions aligning myself or the website’s content in favor of any politico in the province — not now, not ever. Else, the co-authors of this blog, the readers and everyone else would have my head for it. And it’s only to them that I’m really accountable.

The question the person raised on iBorongan was a legitimate one as far as I’m concerned. But for everybody else wanting to insinuate that I’m a politico’s puppet, like this one:

“Date: 3/9/2009, 10:06 am, EDT
Name: james ty
Email: j@yahoo.com
Location: alang anlang
Number: 868
ungod it nga tauhan he ced solidon ni evardone ..usa dama in nga makikwarta..hala daw karuyag mo hin evidensya ?kay pag lalaygayan..”

HA-HA-HA

Don’t drag my ass up any political issues cause I won’t take the bait. I have better things to do than meddle with that, thanks. :)

  7. Hello there, this is Rommel Rutor of DyMS Aksyon Radyo Catbalogan City, president of the Samar Island Press Club (SIPC), in behalf of the press club I would like to invite you and your colleague in this web who are full time journalists to join the SIPC. We are looking for credible and dependable members from East Samar, though we already have Bryan Azura as the newest members of the SIPC kay siya man la an kakuntak nam dida having been with us in Catbalogan for quite a while, wa na kami kuntak kanda Byron and Sentay.

The SIPC is a SEC registered media group and at present has about 35 members from Laoang, Lavesares, San Roque, Allen and Catarman all of northern Samar, Likewise from Calbayog and Catbalogan, and we lack members from Borongan.

We are looking forward into uniting all professional media practitioners in Samar Island, particularly those who can withstand the temptation of envelopmental journalism.

Key media persons who are members and officers of the SIPC for now are: Darwin Aguilar – station manager Radyo Natin Laoang, Elad Perfecto – publisher of Catarman Weekly tribune, Vicky Bohol – publisher of The Samar Monitor, Ryan Babon – publisher of Calbayog news.com, Marlie Tangpos and jennifer Allegado – senior reporters of DyOG Radyo ng Bayan Calbayog, yours truly – editor of Samar Weekly Express and bureau chief of LSDE at the same time of DyMS Aksyon Radyo, and others.

There had been attempts during the previous years to organize this Samar Ilsand-wide media group (Sentay and some of the Sinirangan Press Club members might still remember that during the time of the SIBP) but this is the only attempt so far nga nag succeed. It is registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

We formed the group to help out our fellow media practitioners develop their profession, We are likewise into charities, in fact we are schedule to conduct a medical mission in Lope De Vega come April 25, and in Calbayog on May 09.

We cannot implement just yet our programs in East Samar due to lack of manpower or members who can help us do the planning.

For details please contact me thru my email: zip_rommel@yahoo.com, by the way our website http://www.samarpressclub.com is still under construction.

Thanks and more power to your web.

  8. censia na kay laksihay la an pag type, hehehe, its past midnight na.

  9. Hello, Rommel. Salamat han imo pag-imbitar hiton mga taga-media ha Eastern Samar pagbulig hiton iyo grupo. It’s interesting to be a part of it. Unfortunately, though, although I took up journalism in college, I am not technically a journalist of any sort. Aside from that, diri ak currently based ha Este.

Anyway, if you want, I can post your comment on this blog. Or you could also make a new press release or something similar for posting here. That way, damo iton makakabasa.

Damo nga salamat and I hope makabiling kamo hiton mag-upay nga taga-media ha Eastern Samar!

  10. Good Day Ced,

Thanks for that quick reply. All the while I thought you’re based in East Samar, kay an mga comments han im mga net viewers baga man hin ada ka la ha Este, beside some of your articles regarding East Samar are quite updated.

There are only few independent media practitioners in Samar Island (I mean those who are in the private media), at least we could find someone in the East which could at least balance the membership of government connected media people.

But if you plan to join us (the SIPC), you will always be welcome since the SIPC is a quad media organization and an advocate of internet -based journalism.

Thanks and more power to your Sinirangan.Com.

    Rommel

  11. I see. Currently, I’m just linking to Eastern Samar news from other sources. I haven’t had the luck to find anyone who would be willing to write news for the blog. And I also don’t have the funds to hire anyone to do it. So mano-mano la anay yana.

Anyway, I’ll just post something about your previous comment about Estehanon journalists to join your organization and hopefully, somebody would be pick it up and join you. And thanks for welcoming me hiton iyo org. In return, welcome ka liwat dinhi pagbisita ngan pagcomment dinhi hiton aton blog. Damo nga salamat!

  12. Gud Day Ced and the rest of the netizens in here,

The Samar Island Press Club (SIPC) decided to hold its monthly Harampang sa SIPC news conference in Borongan, Eastern Samar and is tentatively scheduled on April 30, 2009. This is the 7th edition of this monthly project of the SIPC (to help local journalists find accurate news stories by introducing or bringing in to them the news sources).

All local journalists from the Province of Eastern Samar are invited to join, and get the opportunity to meet and know your colleagues in the profession from the other parts of Samar Island who are active members of the SIPC.

We will likewise launch in no time our charity project “Bulong para ha Samarnon” (April or May) – to save our local journalists from begging for help and medicines from politician donors whenever they are approached for help by our needy kababayans. This project is in cooperation with the An Waray Partylist.

    Hope to see you soon.

  13. hi ced,

this is ryan babon of calbayog city, the publisher of calbayognews.com. i’m happy to note that your site is helping out thread some info about east samar. i’m proud of you. god bless.

    ryan

(when passing by, i saw rommel and you interacting about SIPC membership. grab the offer. the more the stronger hehehe… we need a consolidated base for media practitioners in samar. we need you.)

NB: extend my regards to my classmates in the seminary who are priests now in east samar: fr. mike gadicho, fr. edgar abucejo, fr. janno baquilod, fr. jonas rebamontan

  14. Hi Ryan,

Thanks for the compliment. I’m only sorry that the site can’t deliver it’s own news yet. And that we can’t deliver news as frequently as possible. But I’ll try to keep up with what we’re currently doing and help you find the latest on Eastern Samar on this website.

As for the SIPC membership, I’m really grateful about the offer. Again, however, I’m not technically a media practitioner and would rather focus on the overall administration of the site. Also, I’m not based in E. Samar right now. But I hope other media people from E. Samar would grab your offer. :)

I’ll send your regards to them when I see them (hopefully) later this month.

Thanks for dropping by. Balik balik la!
