Boronganons based in Metro Manila once again gathered together to celebrate the Borongan fiesta last September 8, 2010.

The celebration began with a mass at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Kamuning, Quezon City. From there, the people proceeded to the Shangrila Restaurant in West Avenue, Quezon City for lunch and ‘sarayaw’.

This is a long delayed post but here are the photos and a video of the Sulat fiesta celebration held in Quiapo Manila, last July 31, 2010.

The church of the Holy Face of Jesus was jampacked during that night.

Most of the roads within the vicinity of San Julian have already been repaired, although I noticed that some of the newly-asphalted roads already show signs of damage. I reckon this is because the underlying dirt road isn’t leveled before asphalt is poured on top of it creating a gap between the foundation and the asphalt.

Another thing that I observed is the absence of heavy machinery between Borongan and Sulat which would have suggested repairs to the roads are being done in the area. However, this could be because these roads haven’t been slated for repair just yet.

Here are some pictures and a video that I have taken during the fiesta in Sulat last July 31. Some of them were taken during the mass wherein Bishop Crispin Varquez was the main celebrant and seminarians from the Nativity of Our Lady College Seminary composed the choir.

The Diocese of Borongan has two new priests: Fr. Rolly Tabo of Lalawigan, Borongan and Fr. Ruben Baquilod of Maydolong.

I was able to attend Fr. Tabo’s ordination in Lalawigan on July 29, which was officiated by His Excellency Bishop Crispin Varquez.

Varquez called Tabo his firstborn since he is the first priest he ordained since he was installed as Bishop of Borongan. Aside from that, he advised the new priest a few things, from serving Christ, helping the Church grow, believing in what he preaches, to living what he teaches. Also, Varquez told Tabo to lean how to sacrifice himself for the sake of a higher value.

As I promised in my post last weekend, I will now post the pictures and video I took during Borongan’s fiesta celebration here in Metro Manila. Sorry for their quality especially the video because I only used my cellphone to take them.

Anyway, here they are:

The celebration began with a mass led by Fr. Mario Operario along with three other priests, Frs. Dong de Guzman, Ben Noroña and Boyboy Alconaba. It was then followed by lunch hosted by the hermanos and hermanas.

With a lunch consisting of no less than five dishes, I suppose everybody went home with their stomachs full.

Also during lunch, new officers of the Natives of Borongan in Manila and Suburbs (Nobitcoms) were elected. However, I forgot to note down who won then. I was probably too busy eating then. Hehe.

Right after lunch was the usual sarayaw with disco (yes, disco, not house or techno music) and kuratsa playing on the background. But most of the people have gone home by then. Those who were left were those who were bent on having a great time and spending the afternoon hitting the dance floor.

All in all it was a great experience to celebrate Borongan’s town fiesta even if I was actually far away from it. It was also a great opportunity to meet old friends who are currently based in Metro Manila and chat with them and get updated with how they are right now. I could say that the spirit of the fiesta was in everyone who joined the celebration here today.
